Honorable Constance Mitchell: First African-American, elected to office in Monroe County.

 

Honorable William A. Johnson, Jr.: First African-American elected Mayor of the City of Rochester.

 

2005 Pioneer Honorees

 

Minister Franklin Florence: Community Activist

 

Captain Charles Price: Among First Black Police Captain

 

Honorable Ruth Scott: Community Activist and First City Council Women

 

Kathryn Terrell: Community Activist

 

2006 Pioneer Honorees

 

Dr. Alice H. Young: First Black elementary school Principal in Rochester, and as a Founding Trustee of Monroe Community College

 

Dr. Frederick C. Jefferson, Jr.:

Only Black person to serve as Chair of the United Way of Rochester’s Board of Directors, and as a founder of its African-American Leadership Development Program.

 

The Honorable David F. Gantt:

First Black person elected to represent Monroe County in a statewide office

 

Dr. Juanita Pitts:

First Black female Physician to practice in Rochester

Community Activist and Educator

 

James and Carolyne Blount:

Founders, publisher and executive editor, respectively, of ABOUT…TIME Magazine.
